I appreciate the sentiment, but disagree. If you want to see pure, love of the game hockey, go watch the midget, college, or beer leagues. Those are the folks playing for fun and paying for the privilege. If you want to see world-class athletes who dedicate their lives to a sport, well, someone has to pay 'em to do so. Professional sports are bunch of businesses and should operate as such. It is not realistic to think that, even with a salary cap, the business will be taken out of the game. Owners will cut prices just enough to get the fans back, then will start raising the costs again to maximize their profit. Prices aren't set to attract the largest number of buyers, they are set to maximize revenue. I paid for season tickets before, do so now in Europe, and will again in the States. Since I'm going to be gouged for as much as possible by the owners (and I don't begrudge them that right), I've got no problem with the players trying to get as much as possible for themselves: the more of my money that goes to players, the better a shot the Caps have of winning and I'm all for that. Let's Go Caps! www.washingtonhockey.com
