"Morrisonn Signs, No Backstrom this year"

2 years $1.8 million for Shaone avioding arbitration.

Backstrom decides to play another year in Sweeden, wants to come to the NHL as a 20 year old.

Per Caps website.

It's too bad, although not totally unexpected.

Will wonder if this means GMGM will try to sign a FA center (or acquire one via trade) in the meantime to act as a buffer until Backstrom arrives.

Methinks that incompetent boob McPhee will wait until teams need to clear cap space and then "help that team out."

He'll prolly flip whoever that guy is at the deadline too like he did Friesen.

I didnt really expect Backstrom to be playing in the NHL just yet anyway.Guys coming straight from the draft into the big show are very very few and far between, and I wonder if some fans (who were disapointed when he decided to stay in Sweden) were still dizzy from the rookie masterclass of last year.

Well, no matter when he (or any other highly touted rookie, ie. Fehr) makes the jump, he'll be expected to, at the bare minimum, walk on water. Some fans might cut him some slack and not expect him to turn water into wine and feed thousands of people with three fishes and two loaves of bread.

But mark my words, after what A.O. did last year, Caps fans will demand that just about every rookie have an impact like A.O. did. Those who don't (and more often than not, they won't) will be automatically branded as busts after about five games.

Yes,some people will be demanding another Calder Trophy..lol
Still,it will be better for him to come back next year,a little bigger perhaps.
Listening to Mike Vogels Caps report and he was saying that Dovgan looks a dandy.
