New York Post is critical of Lou Lamerillo and the Devils cap situation. http://www.nypost.com/sports/devils/29979.htm
"Lamoriello handcuffed himself in dealing with the $39 million salary cap, and started early by qualifying all his restricted free agents. His attempt to replace Scott Niedermayer and Scott Stevens in the new NHL, where speed and mobility are the most important ingredients, has yielded very disappointing results.
The latter situation compounded the former difficulty. He way overpaid on Vladimir Malakhov ($3.6 million) and Dan McGillis ($2.2 million), having previously signed Richard Matvichuk (discounted down to $1.36 million) against Stevens' potential retirement. They haven't looked the answer, although Malakhov and McGillis were probably the best options he had by the late hour Niedermayer spurned him."
