The results are starting to overcome the early season pre-planned hype for Crosby.

Last time I checked, Crosby and Ovechkin were tied in points, but I'd take A.O.'s 4g,4a over Sid's 2g,6a any day of the week. Lots of hockey left to be played, but regardless I'm thrilled with Alexander. And the game crowds already love him too. He elicits the biggest cheers and gets people on the edge of their seats every time he enters the zone.

Yes I'm nitpicking, but St. Sydney has 9 points (2g's 7 a's) in 6 games and A.O. has 8 (4 and 4) in 7 games.

But the stat that impresses me is that A.O. has 1 GWG and the Caps have three wins while St. Sydney has 0 GWGs because Shittsburgh is winless so far.

And looking at the standings (which is something I won't be doing much this year because I know we'll either be last to close to it) Atlanta's only two wins are against us.

<snicker> The only reason I've been looking at the standings is to monitor when the Cereal Bowl Birds get their first win against another opponent.

Looking objectively at the Sid vs A.O. stats, anyone not involved with the NHL marketing department has to appreciate that Alex's stats are more impressive. Bunch of assists on a team with other players capable of scoring or a balance of goals and assists on a team expected to come in last in the NHL.

Far too early to call this one, but for my A.O., Kolzig and Emminger love, I'm grasping.

A.O. is more impressive for one simple reason. He is a Cap and I am a Caps fan.

In reality, think about highlight packages done by ESPN and other highlight shows. After the initial Crosby love fades what are they going to show? A pass from Crosby to Recchi? (Unless it is a beautiful set-up doubtful...and how often is an assist stunning?) or a goal by Ovechkin? He is creating things on his own and making spectacular plays on his own. I am hooked on watching the Caps because I want to see what he is going to do next. There aren't that many players that can do that in hockey...much less any sport.

So, I expect by mid-season there to be some Ovechkin love in the highlights shown by these networks, because his individual efforts to score goals are going to be more viewer friendly than Crosby's individual efforts to set-up a teammate.
