"A few thoughts about the offseason so far"
01-Jul-07, 11:23 PM (EDT)
That is if anyone bothers to come to this forum anymore.

1) The draft appeared to be solid if unspectacular. I was kind of hoping McPhee would rock the boat and pull off some kind of major trade, but I should know by now that he drafts. Alzner appears to be a solid pick, but we won't until down the line.

2) I was a little puzzled when he traded the other first-rounder and then let the Sharks draft the dman who was rated to be the toughest in the draft. While I understand the need to accumulate picks and the fact that next year's draft allegedly will be really deep, it doesn't give fans a reason to buy tickets and fill the seats.

3) FA signings - Poti is an ok pickup. I guess he's an upgrade compared to what we've had. Viktor Kozlov is an ok signing too.

I was never under the illusion that we would sign some of the golden UFA's (Briere, Drury, Gomez), and at least they're active in the FA market this year. I hope they're not finished. Maybe McPhee is looking to pull off a major trade or two. I'll reserve judgement until the season officially starts.
